What are some common uses of wire? Here are a few for your consideration.

Wire is was goes into the electrical lines that carry power from power plants to transformers to homes everywhere. Without the metal wire to conduct electricity through the lines, billions of homes would be left in the dark, the cold and without protection.

The jewelry industry uses wire heavily in its manufacturing. Historically speaking, wire has been used for making jewelry for thousands of years. Egyptians used gold wire to weave chains, or to hold beads, jewels, ankhs, and images of their deities. Modern jewelry makers used wire made of aluminum, gold, silver and titanium to fashion wares that people can gift and cherish.

Wire is used widely in the manufacturing of instruments. String instruments such as: pianos, violins, cellos, violas, guitars, and basses. Because these instruments use wire, they need to be tuned regularly due to the expanding and contracting of the wire due to changes in temperature.

One of the oldest uses of wire is in eyewear. When eyewear was first invented it was just a globe of water. Later, it evolved into two lenses held in place by a wire frame. Because the wire frame was uncomfortable and flimsy, it was later replaced by more rigid materials such as plastic. Ironically enough, wire is also the name of a popular pair of sports eyewear created by Oakley. The Oakley Wire are sunglasses of the highest quality, and deserve a placement on this list.

Wire can be used in a single strand as with the garrote, or woven together to add strength and durability as with jewelry, electrical lines and other industrial applications.

The many uses of wire range from the mundane to the morbid, and everyone can benefit from the use of wire in their lives.
